Nurses association president Evans honored

The American Psychiatric Nurses Association New Jersey Chapter is honoring New Jersey State Nurses Association President Dr. Benjamin Evans with the Dr. Lucille Joel Award.The American Psychiatric Nurses Association New Jersey Chapter is honoring New Jersey State Nurses Association President Dr. Benjamin Evans with the Dr. Lucille Joel Award.

The recognition, announced Thursday, is given for distinguished leadership and dedication to psychiatric and mental health nursing.

Evans’ nursing career spans more than four decades. A current member of APNA NJ, his involvement with the organization stretches more than 10 years.

Dr. Lucille Joel, for whom the APNA NJ Award is named, is a professor at Rutgers University School of Nursing and a past president of the NJSNA, the American Nurses Association and the International Council for Nurses. She also serves as a board member at Newbridge Medical Center.

“She was so insightful and forward-thinking for the time,” Evans said. “I never thought I would be working with Dr. Joel and have the honor of calling her a colleague. This is a high honor. It is one of the highlights of my career.”
